Position Summary
Are you passionate about Chicago? Do you love to entertain and educate? Do you like meeting new people from all walks of life? Do you think trains are fun? If so, then a tour guide position with L Stop Tours is a perfect fit.
You and your tour group will board the ‘L’ to visit a variety of venues located along the city’s elevated lines. Short walks around the stations will enable guests to get a feel for Chicago’s unique neighborhoods while sampling local fare and visiting historic sites.
Responsibilities
- Greet all guests promptly prior to scheduled tour times
- Outline the tour and timeline before beginning
- Know all safety and security protocols, should they be needed
- Following training, memorize tour information and use your iPad “guide book” to share content with the guests throughout the tour
- Provide excellent customer service by answering questions and ensuring guests’ needs are met throughout the tour
- Be flexible, adaptable and prepared to handle unanticipated situations
- Escort guests through all phases of the tour, never leaving them unattended
- Keep the tour moving and on schedule while being considerate to guests
- Provide information and directions to guests who wish to visit other locations after the tour
- Provide regular feedback to senior management regarding tour stops and make recommendations regarding changes to tours based on guest feedback
Skills and Qualifications
- Familiarity with Google services and Apple products
- Deep knowledge of Chicago and the downtown area (or willing to learn)
- Great presentation skills, must be a captivating storyteller
- Enthusiastic, friendly and confident
- English fluency required, bilingual is a plus
- Always punctual with good time management skills
- Ability to retain facts about points of interest
- Comfortable interacting with people from different backgrounds
- Skilled at diffusing difficult situations
- Previous experience as a tour guide or similar position is ideal
- Minimum high school diploma, college preferred
Exempt Status: Non-exempt (hourly) / Part-time (average 16-20 hours per week) / Days vary based on tour schedule
Rate: $18-20 per hour, based on experience with Paid training
Reports to: Director of Operations
